Staff in this section recruit, interview, screen and
test applicants for employment in positions classified under the State Universities Civil
Service System (SUCSS) and refer candidates for campus vacancies in accordance with the
State Universities Civil Service System Statute and Rules. This section also provides
assistance to departments and employees involved in layoff activity.
Services include:
- attending recruitment outreach events including those in the local
community, the University of Illinois, other colleges and universities, high schools, and
other privately sponsored job fairs
- coordinating advertising campaigns
- reviewing applicants' credentials to determine job qualifications
- conducting background investigations on applicants with criminal
convictions and on candidates for security-sensitive positions
- initiating the revision of Civil Service examinations
- administering a variety of Civil Service exams
- maintaining registers of candidates for all job classifications
- referring eligible candidates to campus units for job interviews and
candidate selection
- counseling employees seeking promotional opportunities
- working with campus units to establish training programs to assist in
meeting affirmative action goals
